eBay Giving Works + Comic-Con = Supersized Charity

Estimated Reading Time: 83 seconds

Gadzooks! eBay Giving Works recently teamed up with DC Entertainment and Chris Hardwicke’s Nerdist Industries to superpower two comic-driven auctions to raise funds to address the hunger crisis in Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya and for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Both charity-auction events, which launched last week at the annual San Diego Comic-Con International confab, are still active and can be found at http://givingworks.ebay.com.

DC Entertainment’s comics-driven charity event revolves around its eighth customized “Justice League”-inspired Kia Sorento car, which was on display at Comic-Con over the weekend. Designed by legendary comic book artist and DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Jim Lee, the car features images of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, among others, and is the centerpiece of a special online charity auction on eBay which benefits the entertainment company’s ’We Can Be Heroes’ campaign. The auction is open now through July 26 and all proceeds will be benefit Save the Children, International Rescue Committee and Mercy Corps’ efforts in Africa.

“At eBay we strive to connect our audience with unique items they are passionate about,” said Gene Cook, general manager of Emerging Verticals for eBay. “We are thrilled to partner with DC Entertainment to bring this exciting Justice League event to our comic and super hero enthusiasts as while making progress towards our three-year giving goals across eBay Inc.”

cotf2013For comics fans who prefer Luke and Leia to Batman and Superman, Nerdist Industries’ “Course of the Force”-related charity auction may be more appropriate. Leading up to Comic-Con, “Stars Wars” fans could donate their registration proceeds from Nerdist’s annual lightsaber relay run (don’t ask, just observe) to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Though the actual race is now over, fans can still bid on two additionalcelebrity auctions – meet & greets with Extra! host Maria Menounos and geek-certified actor Seth Green — on eBay Giving Works, with 100 percent of auction proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
